About

Seamlessly blending tradition and modernity, Senegal's coastal capital city of Dakar is a dream for those interested in the arts, business, history, science, technology - really, anyone! Over a semester or academic year, students improve their French language level by being immersed in the local culture both in and outside of the classroom.

Academics
Via direct enrollment, take courses at the Institut de Management Supérieur (ISM), Senegal's top private business school. Students follow four courses, taught in French. Each course is worth four credit hours. Choose from courses in ISM's:

  • School of Engineering

  • School of Management (some international management courses are taught in English)

  • Madiba Leadership Institute (social sciences, communications, political science)

For course samples, visit the APA website: https://www.apaparis.com/program/dakar-semester-year/?topic=Academics

Unique to ISM is Entrepreneurship Week: During the semester, classes are paused for one week to work on entrepreneurial and service projects in the community.

Additionally, students meet weekly with APA's French instructor to work on oral and written expression and comprehension. This time is often used to polish papers and assignments prior to turning them in to the professor.

Culture
The lively artistic scene of Dakar is not to be missed! APA curates a culture calendar including a weekend excursion (Sine Saloum Delta in the fall, Saint Louis in the spring), a day trip to Gorée Island, African arts seminars, monthly activities such as concerts, theater, film and weekly conversational Wolof language lessons.

Housing
Each student is carefully paired with a welcoming host family. Homestays provide daily breakfast and dinner and weekly laundry.

Support
On-site staff are available 24/7 for all questions, big and small.
