Overall Experience
Studying abroad at the American University of Sharjah was the best decision of my life. I gained so many positive experiences and learned to be more independent. Before going abroad, I used to stay within my daily environment and stick to the same people. Studying in the UAE, taught me to be more open to other cultures. I fell i... - Maastricht University View Entire Review
I learned how to be more independent and get around in a foreign country on my own. I learned how to really self-advocate and stay on top of people especially when it comes to important documents (visa information, passports, etc.) It was definitely worthwhile and I would do it all over again if I could. - American University of Sharjah View Entire Review

A stronger perspective on Middle Eastern issues and the cultural variances within the region, that will be helpful in future academic and job endeavours. I also was able to have a greater understanding of the countless different world lenses that are used in both academia and professional work settings, by interacting with inter... - Simon Fraser University View Entire Review
My courses were enlightening because the students in my classes had personal experiences that they offered which I would not have gotten at home (in courses like Arab history, middle eastern politics). I made amazing friends - most of which were other American exchange students, however some friends were local students. The scho... - American University View Entire Review

My experience reassured my love for cultures and people. It reawakened a drive for learning and for travel. I was finally able to experience Middle Eastern culture and Islam first hand and was able to put all my fears, which stemmed from Western propaganda, to rest. I was able to make friends that I aim to keep for the rest o... - Villanova University View Entire Review

About

Accreditation. The American University of Sharjah is accredited in the United States of America by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The bachelor of science degree programs in engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET . The Bachelor of Architecture program of the College of Architecture, Art and Design is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) of the United States. The School of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Location.
The UAE is in the center of the world map. It is surrounded by wonderful international airports and airlines with direct flights to almost any major city in the world.  Students are able to travel and explore the globe so easily, from the UAE as a base. AUS is located at the intersection of four very different worlds within the UAE: the traditional Arab city of Sharjah, celebrated by UNESCO and ISESCO as the Cultural Capital of the Arab and Islamic World; the cosmopolitan and futuristic city of Dubai, widely known for icons such as the tallest building in the world, an indoor ski slope, and palm islands; the wide open desert where students can experience a desert safari, ride camels, and experience life as a Bedouin; and finally the Indian Ocean resort shoreline where snorkeling and traditional water sports abound.

Education.
Embrace the strong intellectual tradition of the Middle East through education at AUS. Take accredited courses in your major, while enhancing your Arabic language skills through formal classroom instruction and daily conversational practice with native speakers.  Exchange students can expect to learn about the Emirati and Gulf Arab Culture while being immersed in the full spectrum of the Arab/Islamic world. They can choose from a wide array of courses concerned with Arab-Islamic culture and civilization, modern Arab history, economics in the Middle East and so much more.

Exchange Programs.
In addition to our bilateral partnerships, our memberships in consortiums such as the International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP), the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), and Academic Programs International (API) connect our university with hundreds of universities from more than 40 countries worldwide.

Safety and Security.
The UAE is popular among tourists and expats from across the world. You will always feel right at home in the UAE especially with its very low levels of property crime, and very low levels of violent crime. Women feel extraordinarily safe and secure here. In addition to that, the AUS Campus is self-contained with strong security and a Police College located just outside its gates.
