I learned a great deal about Scottish history, and the relationship of the culture to the land. I learned how to live independently in a foreign city, and to meet people with very different backgrounds from myself. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned to problem solve. A lot of times I was put in situations I had never been through before and I had to find a way to solve the problem. I also learned about different cultures and countries. Definitely worthwhile!! - University of Puget Sound View Entire Review
I gained a new sense of independence. I never knew I could feel at home somewhere thousands of miles away from my actual home but it happened because I had an open heart and mind to what a new place with new and great people would teach me. - LaSalle University View Entire Review
It was so worthwhile! I never wanted to leave. I loved Edinburgh, the people were amazing, courses were good, and the whole abroad experience was so fun! - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself and Scotland and also the rest of Europe (I travelled most weekends) and it was the best four months of my life. I wish I was staying the rest of the year. - Washington University in Saint Louis View Entire Review

I learned that there is a lot of history in Scotland, and the land is more beautiful that the pictures could ever show. The people are mostly friendly, and there is a different way of life that was certainly worth learning about. - Texas A&M University - College Station View Entire Review

About

From clans and clashes to the Vikings and the Romans, from monasticism to the Stuart monarchy, this is a hands-on exploration of Scottish history where Scotland itself is the classroom over four summer weeks. While your studies will be based in Edinburgh, the past of Scotland will come to life as you live and breathe Scottish history through field excursions and site visits throughout the country. Various lenses, from archaeological to geological to historical to cultural, will be utilized to gain new insight and understanding from this fascinating land.

You will enroll in the Scottish History course with the option to add Curating, Interpretation and Heritage: A Scottish Perspective if interested.

Your courses are integrated with field trips to explore both the cultural past and landscape of Scotland.
