About

Exclusive for BU Education majors

Introduction
Teacher candidates will have the opportunity to study at the Loris Malaguzzi International Center and to observe teachers and students within the Reggio schools. They will also visit historical and cultural sites in the two ancient and significant cities of Milan and Venice.

About Reggio Emilia
Reggio Emilia is an affluent city of approximately 170,000 inhabitants and is located in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. This city is also in an area known for its world-renowned Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and balsamic vinegar. Also significant is that this is the birthplace of the famous early-childhood-education pioneer, Loris Malaguzzi. He is the primary reason why this study-abroad program is being developed, as his educational theories have been producing happy, productive, and well-educated citizens in Reggio Emilia for over 40 years. Bloomsburg University teacher candidates will experience learning from the master teachers who have developed this unique approach to facilitating young children's learning through the use of careful observation, guided lessons based upon children's areas to interest, and infusions of the arts and play within much of the learning.
Specifics
Within this study-abroad experience, teacher candidates will earn three academic credits for the required urban practicum experience. An additional three credits may be earned by enrolling in the Multicultural Education course.
This is a 2 week summer program taking place in May.
