Overall Experience
Conversation skills, cultural experiences, and lifelong friends. It was absolutely worthwhile. - Arkansas State University View Entire Review
Totally worthwhile and cheaper than the majority of abroad options through my home university. I would recommend it to anyone, especially since I went during the low season and practically had one - on - one classes for the price of group classes. It was mostly conversational so be prepared to do a lot of talking! - Abroad101 University View Entire Review

This trip was worth every penny. Not only did expand my ability to speak Spanish, but I was able to make new friends who live in Costa Rica. I was able to experience a different life which made me even more curious about the world. And I will be a more confident explorer after my experience with CPI. - New Mexico State University View Entire Review

I think… expecting to come back fluent is a stretch. You will learn a lot but not everything, so it makes you want to keep learning even after you are back. - New Mexico State University View Entire Review

My program abroad experience was definitely worthwhile. I learned or better my spanish skills and learned how people live and act in a different country. I got to see some amazing views, waterfalls in old volcano craters, lava coming from an active volcano and much more. You get a lot of exercise so take good shoes for walking. ... - New Mexico State University View Entire Review

I gained the ability to speak spanish as well as the skills to cope and fit in with a new culture. The worst part about the experience was that I had to come back to the U.S. and Im sure most people who go will feel the same way. - New Mexico State University View Entire Review
Yes. Definitely helped to improve my Spanish. It would have helped for CPI to have more computers available, not just for e mail but to do the required journals for NMSU. And, it was virtually impossible to attach and send these via the NMSU e mail system - I ended up using Yahoo to get this done. - New Mexico State University View Entire Review

About

CPI Heredia, founded in 1991, is located in San Joaquín de Flores. San Joaquín, a suburb of Heredia, is popular among those who wish to be away from the traffic, pollution and tension of the city, yet still want the advantage of easy access to Costa Rica's capital. Excellent bus service provides transportation from San Joaquín to both Heredia and San José. An additional advantage of San Joaquín is the opportunity to gain an increased insight into Costa Rican culture in a town that is typically "Tico". The province of Heredia has a comfortable climate year round. Due to the altitude, night time temperatures of about 18 °C (64 °F) are quite common in San Joaquín, so it is recommended to bring a jacket or a sweater. During the rainy season, (May-December) it often rains in the afternoon so an umbrella and/or a light rain coat are essential. During the dry season, umbrellas and raincoats are not needed. Activities in Heredia include visits to a butterfly farm, a tour of a local coffee plantation, waterfall rapelling, hiking to the Barva Volcano, rain forest canopy tours, river boat excursions to Sarapiquí, as well as trips to museums, theatres, movies, and nightclubs in San José. The staff at CPI also arranges planned excursions throughout the week. San Joaquín is an excellent base from which to visit all of Costa Rica. This central location makes travel to San José easy, where bus connections to any part of the country are readily available. Founded in 1991, el Centro Panamericano de Idiomas (CPI) offers premier conversational language instruction to students of all ages and skill levels. Tailor-made Spanish classes offer students an interactive learning experience that cannot be duplicated. Accredited by the Costa Rica Ministry of Education, CPI boasts an experienced, university-educated language staff. CPI currently partners with a number of Universities from the United States as well as el Instituto Cervantes de España. Class sizes are small, ranging from one student to a maximum of six, allowing one-on-one interaction between student and instructor. No matter the skill level, students begin conversing from day one. Classes are communication-based, supplemented with a strong foundation in fundamental language mechanics. Students learn through direct interaction with the instructor, engaging in active language exercises that make the learning process exciting and new each day! The CPI experience is truly immersive, surrounding students in an environment that enriches the learning process with culture and unforgettable experiences.
