By Alexandra S (Math, Providence College) for
CIEE: Seville - Liberal Arts
Oh yes it was very worthwhile. I improved my Spanish and got to travel so much. I also made some incredible new friends and had a really fun time. It also helps you become more independent.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Overall I liked my classes. I thought they were interesting and the teachers were helpful. My spanish definitely improved. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
All the staff were available and helpful. Anything you might need, they were there for you and could help you out. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I lived with a Spanish woman. She was older and a widow. She knew no English. I had my own room and we shared a bathroom.

I lived in Los Remedios and I really liked that section of the city. She cooked all my meals and I really liked her. We got along really well. Sometimes her sons and grandkids came over. I had to walk between 30 and 40 minutes to get to class, but I didn't mind, you got used to it pretty easily and the city is so nice anyway. |
* Food: |
I was provided with plenty of food. My seƱora cooked all my meals. Her cooking wasn't too bad, but it wasn't spectacular either. It just depends on who you live with. She made me lots of lentil soup. Also cooked eggs a lot. The food wasn't my favorite part, she used so much olive oil and everything was fried so it didn't seem that healthy. Also didn't eat a lot of vegetables. But I never went hungry and she also offered to make me more food if I wanted it. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I had a lot of fun. Sevilla is a great city. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I felt safe, even walking at night. It was a nice city. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you are traveling a lot. |
Language
Language acquisition improvement? |
I was completely immersed in Spanish and because of that, my Spanish speaking improved greatly. |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I think it's a good program and I'm glad I chose it. They are well organized and can help you with anything you need. I think the only downfall is that it is all American students. I would have liked to have been in a program with more international students, but the program did provide opportunities to meet Spanish people. All and all I'm very please with CIEE. |
