I learned a lot about self-reliance. Yes, it was worthwhile. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Absolutely. It's hard to put a value on what I've learned while I'm still here--it won't be until I have to change back that I'm really aware of what I have gained. Katie A - Austin College View Entire Review
Yes. I learned new things about the culture that I had not experienced. I made many new friends, countless countless memories, and fulfilled my dream of living as a student in Japan. It has shown me also that although I love Japan, I don't think I would live there. Visit often, but not live. Mijeong T - Wellesley College View Entire Review
Yes, I would do it again, but I would probably take Intensive Japanese and try harder to make Japanese friends. Sophie2 - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I plan on working in Tokyo when I graduate so I would say this is a good indicator of my experience there. It changed my perspective on being American in a foreign city as well as being American in America. I met so many international people as well as native Japanese people and I feel like you can only get that experience if yo... Tama M - Wellesley College View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile in the sense that it made me realize that I DON'T like Japan that much and DON'T want to live and work there like I had originally thought. In that sense it saved me the trouble of getting a job there and being committed to living there for several years and likely growing to hate it. I learned a l... I learned about a new culture and new language. it was an amazing experience and I am so glad I got the opportunity to study abroad in Japan. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Language skills, a stronger sense of independence, and that trains are the best thing in the world. I believe it was very worthwhile. I got to experience many things, such as concerts and conventions, that I would not have otherwise been able to experience. A student - Austin College View Entire Review
I learned how not to panic when I get lost. I learned to read body language much better and to interact with people whom I don't share a language with. Trevor F - Trinity University View Entire Review

I learned a lot more than I expected about Japanese culture and language. I learned how to be a part of a very different community and it was very worthwhile. Jonathan R - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned some interesting things about the culture and language that I wouldn't find in a book. I gained valuable friendships. Overall, it was very worthwhile Megan A - Fordham University View Entire Review
Yes. I just wish I could have done a homestay but the natural disaster was (obviously) out of our control. Anna m - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I would definitely regret not coming to Japan when I had the chance, so I'm glad I went through with it and spent a semester in Tokyo. At times, I feel like it was an academic waste of a semester, but outside of the academics, I've made a lot of memories that have made it worthwhile. After being in Japan, I feel like its unneces... I learned a lot about Japan, but the main benefit was the reaffirmation of what is important for me to have in my life back home. For me personally, I came to realize the importance of family and a solid foundation on which to enjoy life rather than getting caught up in the rat race that is Tokyo.
