It was a once in a lifetime experience and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat without hesitation. I think I really understand the Pura Vida lifestyle and how truly priceless our environment is to us. It's hard to put these big ideas into words but it was 110% worthwhile. Charly Y - University of Maine - Orono View Entire Review
It was SO worthwhile. One of the best decision of my life. I learned how to communicate through a language barrier, I learned about the culture, how it feels to be a minority, and my eyes were opened to how big and amazing the world is! A student - Clemson University View Entire Review
I learn way more than I can explain in words. I learned so much academically, socially, culturally, and life lessons that I will carry with me forever. I was beyond worthwhile. A student - Berea College View Entire Review
The classes I've taken here teaches the material from the Latin American perspective, which is different than the Unites States perspective. I have learned things from a different point of view, which broadens my mind. And I can see what is being taught inside the classroom, outside. Tiffany H - University of North Florida View Entire Review
I learned so much more about life in general. My classes were great but I learned how genuine people can really be. Sarah M - University of New Hampshire View Entire Review
This experience was one of the greatest things I have ever decided to do. It greatly benefitted my language skills and also taught me how to live with less. I became very aware of the cultural differences-something that is very beneficial for the future when I will be working with different people. Rachel B - Wisconsin Lutheran College View Entire Review
Being immersed in the culture helps with language skills as well as cultural understanding. I have a huge appreciation for the people and traditions in Costa Rica. Now I have the travel bug-- I want to see the entire world!!!! Amy E - University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee View Entire Review

CISabroad / Center for International Studies Scholarships
This award is intended for students within the LGBTQIA+ community, as part of CIS Abroad’s commitment to Generation Study Abroad. Studying abroad as an LGBTQIA+ or gender nonconforming student brings an additional set of challenges and options to consider. There are some questions you may want to ask yourself, and research to be done, before choosing a study abroad program – but our LGBTQIA+ students have amazing experiences abroad and often find local LGBTQIA+ communities to be a part of. Recipients will select from a variety of mediums to share their story while abroad, in addition to submitting a photo testimonial.
Up to $500
This award is intended for students in a Greek Life organization who need help covering the cost of membership dues while abroad. In keeping with the philanthropic values of Greek Life organizations, recipients should plan to participate in at least one self-directed volunteer opportunity while abroad and produce content (ex. a blog post or video) related to that experience, in addition to other selections.

We understand first-generation students face additional barriers to studying and interning abroad. In fact, many staff members at CIS Abroad are also first-generation college students. This scholarship is intended to help fund the visa process, flights, and international housing for students who are among the first from their family to go to college. Recipients will share their story of learning and exploration while abroad with a photo gallery and their choice of travel vlog, blogging, or an Instagram takeover.
Up to $500
This award is intended for students who demonstrate excellence in their academic major. While abroad, recipients will use a variety of channels (video, blogging, photos) to share how studying/interning abroad is enriching their academic or professional career, in addition to submitting a photo testimonial.
