i gained a working knowledge of the entertainment industry in Los Angeles and developed connections that will help my future career. - Emerson College View Entire Review
I was mixed about whether I should go to LA, but I could not be happier with my decision to participate in the program! Not many journalism students go, however even if you are not interested in entertainment news, journalism is everywhere and it is nice/important to experience different places. - Emerson College View Entire Review
Yes - solidified that this is where I have to be for what I want to be doing and acclimated me to the city -- was a good transition step, since I knew I was going to move out here after graduation it was great to have experience in the city as a student when I still had the cushion of friends and Emerson programs. - Emerson College View Entire Review
Absolutely. It confirmed I wanted to work in LA post-graduation. - Emerson College View Entire Review
Of course. It was amazing. I got to live elsewhere, where it's warm and skateboard friendly, I had a kick-ass paid internship, which was basically like having a full time job, loved my coworkers, spend quality time with my girlfriend, got other jobs on set, got a job offer from my internship site, and will probably move back in ... - Emerson College View Entire Review

Honestly, the only bad thing I can say about my experience is that now I am really sad that it is over. It has helped solidify my interests in my major and now I have real life experience and contacts. - Emerson College View Entire Review

Yes the LA Program is great for film, tv, acting students and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested. The program was one of the reasons I applied to Emerson in my senior year of high school and it did not let me down. - Emerson College View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. I'm remaining in LA to try to find a job and through the program, I am more comfortable doing so. - Emerson College View Entire Review
I was very grateful to be able to be in the middle of the film world and see it from the eyes of a student before being thrust into it. It made me feel more prepared. - Emerson College View Entire Review
Great working and social environment. - Emerson College View Entire Review
The classes were ridiculous, with very little academic or thought inducing satisfaction, but the internship was the main aspect of the experience anyway, so it was good overall. - Emerson College View Entire Review
It wasn't abroad, but L.A. is a different world from what we from the East Coast are used to. Now I love California, I just detest L.A. - Emerson College View Entire Review

About

Qualified juniors, seniors and graduate students may enroll for a semester of study at the Emerson College Los Angeles Center. The Los Angeles Center is a residential program with a full semester of internship opportunities and course-work during the fall and spring semesters, as well as a shortened summer session.

The internship course may be taken for 4 or 8 college credits and requires completion of both academic assignments and a specific number of hours at the intern site. With over 1000 internships in all aspects of the entertainment industry including film, television, radio, performance, new media, music, management, journalism, publicity and public relations, the LA program offers a broad range of opportunities in a variety of fields.

Student interns integrate theory and practice in an atmosphere of "experiential learning" with the goals of self-knowledge, personal growth, and career development. Interning with industry professionals such as set designers, film editors, writers, stage managers, film and television producers, casting directors, talent managers, and publicity directors, provides students with an understanding of the industry beyond the classroom.

Courses are taught by Los Angeles Center faculty who, as well as being academically credentialed, are professionals working in the industry, including producers, directors, screenwriters, advertising and public relations executives, actors, entertainment marketing professionals and more.

Completely furnished student housing (mandatory for undergraduates) is offered a short distance from the center at the Oakwood Apartment Complex near Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, and NBC.

Applications should be submitted at least one year in advance of attendance.
