Course Topic: Experimental Ceramics and Glass Fabrication - Traditional and Contemporary Mexican Techniques (link course outline)
May 29th – June 16th, 2023 (3 weeks); optional extension for 2 additional weeks 

A summer course for international students of Arts, Design or any related discipline. A comprehensive introduction to crafting, slip casting and blown glass mold making. The main approach is through Digital Fabrication, focused on the merge of traditional techniques and state of the art technology. No previous knowledge of 3D modelling is required, although a strong interest and some experience is an advantage.


The main goal of this course is to create and evaluate pieces digitally before manufacturing, as well as designing processes that are suited for small production craft workshops.


Topics of the course include:



  • Ceramics, Blown Glass and Casting

  • Molds basics, draft angles, parting lines, spruce

       - Sand Casting molds
       - Slip cast plaster molds 
       - Blown glass molds
       - Experimental molds (digital design for handcrafted molds; CNC machined plaster molds; Wood, plaster/silica and other experimental molds for glass blowing)

  • 3D printed molds / Bronze casting

  • Visit to blown glass workshop and work with experimental molds



The IBERO Summer Experience
