About

While each Greek meal is fresh and inviting, it is also a trip back through Greece's history.

Μην το χάσετε (don't miss out) September 2024 program added!

Experience sustainable Greece on IPSL's "Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle" program usually available in July only, in 2024 a second program has been added for September. The program (available for 3 academic credits if you choose) is designed to help students develop an understanding about the specific diet and its health benefits. Research the theory of the Mediterranean way of life, and provide an international perspective. This rich study abroad program keeps participants 'on-the-go' with its many valuable experiences. Participants will hear lectures on the history of the Mediterranean Diet, Food as medicine, trends in obesity among the Mediterranean people, the benefits of wine, ancient wine varietals and the part wine plays in the local culture to name just a few of the topics discussed. Participants also examine the cultural and emotional interconnections that influence what, and how we eat, and how we socialize with, and around food.

In addition, participants will attend hands-on workshops like:

  • Mediterranean cooking classes

  • Olive oil tasting and sensory analysis that may include a visit to the orchard and a class on olive oil soap making

  • Walk in the surrounding hills and mountains selecting herbs and medicinal plants and spend time with ‘traditional healers’

  • Visit nearby sustainable wineries and enjoy a wine and cheese pairing

  • Soak in Natural Hot Spring Baths (built during the Byzantine era of the Emperor Justinian and dated back to 900 BC)

  • to name just a few experiences...

This program is a unique opportunity to get involved in hands-on learning in a part of the world that is at once ancient and modern, urban and rural. There are so many choices (and reasons) to experience the IPSL Greece program. Secure your spot before the program fills up for September 2024!
