I learned a lot about myself introspectively, I learned a lot about Greek culture and history, and generally, not a day went by while I was there that I didn't learn something new. It was so unique and so beautiful. Kyra C - Westminster University View Entire Review
I gained a better understanding on another part of the world. I honestly felt like a native after just a month there. The Greek culture is so welcoming and inviting. I made so many friends who I still keep in contact with it. At first I was apprehensive about going away for school, as I was the only person in my program, but I a... You should take nothing for granted. This entire trip and learning experience was certainly worthwhile. Kaitlin McGeown - College of Mount Saint Vincent View Entire Review
I gained and grew so much on this trip to Greece. Besides the amazing relationships I built while there, this was the trip that segued into my international humanitarian career, which is what I'm doing now in Iraq. It was the experience of a lifetime, and I'll cherish it forever. Brenda Hershey - Roosevelt University View Entire Review
I've learned a lot about myself, but mainly I've learned that you can never take anything for granted because (A) other people are either doing okay with less than you and (B) life moves faster than you can blink Kaitlin McGeown - College of Mount Saint Vincent View Entire Review
About
"A truly amazing time! I learned a lot about myself, I learned a lot about Greek culture and history, and generally, not a day went by while I was there that I didn't learn something new. It was so unique and so beautiful. The home stay was extremely kind and welcoming, the program correspondents were very kind and communicative, the class was full of information and challenge." Are you looking to explore the ancient and modern cultural and social issues of this unique part of the world?
Those interested in Grecian history will adore Thessaloniki’s unique history as a symbol of the Byzantine Empire, a free state under Roman rule, captured during Ottoman rule, and the city where the Young Turk Revolution began. Explore Greek culture, both ancient and modern, through a lens that examines the local sustainable Micro- Entrepreneurship movement, social responsibility, Europe's refugee crisis, immigration and more. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. IPSL also accepts AmeriCorps Segal Education awards.
Experience the best of the Greek culture in a land brimming with natural beauty and history. Live, study and volunteer in the exciting heart of a modern city with an ancient past.
If you choose to take courses, you can study community organizing and social activism (COSA) which explores the history and ethics of international service while examining the past and current political and social movements and advocacy efforts in Greece. Other courses include Greek History & Culture and Modern Greek Language as well as a variety of electives. In July, the very popular “Mediterranean Diet & Lifestyle” program is offered. Space is limited for this course so sign up early!
All courses are enhanced by hands-on community service in Greek NGO’s and other non-profit organizations. Opportunities include working with refugees, migrants and Roma which will increase your understanding of how Greece (& other parts of Europe) are handling the influx of displaced people.
Of course, your time in Greece wouldn’t be complete without some extracurricular exploration so IPSL has activities and excursions options to further enhance your experience!
Enjoy a walking tour of Thessaloniki that highlights important historical sites and museums as well as an opportunity to taste some of the best food on the planet! Other options may include hiking on Mt. Olympus; sailing on the Aegean Sea; Greek cooking classes; a multi-day visit to Athens; traditional Greek Dancing classes and an artisan tour of the multi-village Tzoumerka Horia region to name just a few.
