Past Review Unforgettable
Any experience in a foreign country for a year will undeniably make you learn a lot about yourself and collect a tonne of experiences, and that was certainly the case for me. In addition, Australia is an incredibly beautiful country with a welcoming culture and kind people, so it's an ideal place for a year abroad. It was all de... - Brandeis University View Entire Review
A big thing I learned was to slow down (the US seems to be the only place that lives at such a fast pace). I learned what other people thought about my home country and now I'm very open to other opinions. This program was worth it! I am so much more aware of what's out there and ready to explore all of it. I am now willing to j... - University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse View Entire Review
I think I became more independent and learned how to travel on my own. It was definitely a worthwhile experience, one that I would never trade. - Tufts University View Entire Review
That is too broad of a question and I don't have a lot of time. But this changes for everyone. I have been lucky enough to travel a good amount before this so each experience kind of blends together. This turns into one wonderful brush stoke filled with different people, their various stories and the person you become as you ... - Indiana University of Pennsylvania View Entire Review

A student studying abroad with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad: Melbourne - University of Melbourne
Studying abroad is about more than the physical time spent in another country, but about the skills that a student walks about with from the entire experience. In Australia, a major skill I have gained is the ability to adapt; adapt to new cultures, places, situations. Every person will be in a situation with unexpected changes,... - Colorado State University View Entire Review
It has broadened my outlook on people and culture. I am more accepting now. Australians are some of the most generous and selfless people I have ever met and seeing how they live their lives inspired me to live that way as well. Also, with the business classes and internship that I took I discovered that I want to go into some k... - Hope College View Entire Review
This was my second visit to Australia and it made me want to go to grad school here. I learned a lot from my professors and made some friends that I will never forget. - Berry College View Entire Review
MOST DEFINITELY. Changed the way I look at life, my major, expanded my horizons and made some of best friends. - DePauw University View Entire Review
You never know what you're gonna experience until you go and experience it. I had this vision of how my study abroad trip was gonna play out and believe me I was not disappointed but only blown away about how much better it was! The traveling was like none other. Snorkeling at The Great Barrier Reef was unforgettable and the oth... - New Mexico State University View Entire Review

About

Consistently ranked as the world's most livable city by The Economist, Melbourne, Australia's second-largest city has a population of almost 4.1 million people from as many as 153 different countries. As a result of the gold rush in the state of Victoria during the 1850's and 60's, Melbourne is the vibrant, cosmopolitan, culinary, financial, and multicultural center of Australia. Often referred to as Australia's culture and sporting capital, Melbourne was the first city in the southern hemisphere to play host to the Olympic Summer Games in 1956 and continues to play host to major international events each year. In more recent years it has been recognized as a UNESCO City of Literature and a major center for street art.

Resting on the Yarra River's banks in Port Philip Bay, Melbourne is comprised of smaller neighborhoods, each with its own personality and attractions, and with an extensive public transportation system you can easily explore them all. Melbourne is known for its maze of gothic laneways that lie behind the city streets, where the venues for food, fashion and art are small, quirky and sometimes hidden. With a city that is brimming with things to do and see and a population that is known for being friendly and inclusive, Melbourne is a city that will instantly feel like home.
