Surviving and thriving in a big city. Took challenging and unique courses not offered in many American universities. Learned how to take care of myself in the “real world.”

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Location
  • University resources
  • Visiting student opportunities
* What could be improved?
  • Felt stranded by Wellesley
  • Preparation for different learning environment and expectations
  • Better preparation for living without catering and in an expensive city
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew how expensive and (occasionally) dangerous London could be. I had to learn how to create a budget and stay safe on my own and with much trial and error. I wish I had a workshop about how to create budget, a weekly expense estimate, and a self-defense class BEFORE arriving to my program and being released into a big city (especially when compared to Wellesley’s campus). This could have reduced my stress level and some unpleasant/scary experiences I had to navigate on my own.

The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
