I learned a lot about self-reliance, time and money management, and that I am capable of overcoming obstacles on my own. I wouldn't trade it for the world, even the difficult times. A student - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

I was able to make lots of new friends not only with people from the country of my study abroad program, but from all over the world. I was also able to improve my foreign language skills and to make a lot of unforgettable memories while learning how to live in the country of where I hope to work in the future. My experience at Sophia University was certainly worthwhile! The small campus atmosphere too away from my anxiety about being abroad in a country where I didn't speak the language. I made many friends from a variety of different countries and learned a lot about different cultures. Some things you just have to experience yoursel... It was a worthwhile experience. I learned that I can function in a foreign country, on my own, after a bit of an initial shock. I also learned that I don't really have a lot in common with Japanese people. Alexis V - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Extremely worthwhile, I recommend it but not only to those who don't mind being thrown completely out of their comfort zone. I learned Japanese, received job offers for the future and made great friends. I'll definitely be back soon. Misha Y - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I learned more about aspects of Japanese daily life, gained lots of cultural and historical knowledge, and became slightly more proficient in the language. This enables me to better understand the material I read in class and will be valuable in my pursuit of a written translation career. Elissa S - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Going to Japan really solidified my future plans of living and working in Japan. Everything from the people I met to the food and the city made me feel like it was the right place for me. Sophia University really gave me a great opportunity and helped make the transition easy from living in America to become a local. Because of ... Morgan W - St. John's University View Entire Review
I learned a lot personally and culturally. My experience forced me to become more culturally aware of others. I am so grateful to have had experienced such wonderful things. Marissa T - University of Hawaii - Manoa View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile for me. I took classes I would never have taken at UT (I am an engineering major) and I really challenged myself academically that way. I wouldn't say it has changed my academic plans, but studying a different kind of thing improved my work ethic and attitude toward studying. I wasn't sure if I wanted to work abroad before studying abroad, but now I am confident and my main goals for post-graduation are to try to work abroad. Lisa H - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

I've learned that you can't really understand a country and its culture without actually being there and experiencing it. I have learned a lot about Japan as a country and about the people that love there. It was definitely worthwhile. I did many things I never did before and it really made me step out of my comfort zone. Crystal Nguyen - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I gained not only a huge leap in my understanding of the Japanese language but also a chance to meet new people, Japanese, American, or otherwise, and to understand Japanese culture and, to some extent, the Japanese way of thinking. I saw things I have never seen and would love to see again. Jacob H - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
ABSOLUTELY. I would do it again a thousand times over. Studying abroad teaches things about yourself that you will never learn just by studying in America. Christian B - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Not only did I improve my Japanese skills, I explored a good portion of the region and all of the "mini cities" within the giant city of Tokyo itself. I made friends from all over the world, one of whom is a Japanese student from Sophia who has come to UT to study this year. It was extremely worthwhile!! It was extremely worthwhile. I gained a knowledge of an entire culture, many many friends, and a skill that I value a lot. To this day I keep in touch with 30+ people that I met there, and have plans to return to see them that I hold very dear. It was a fantastic experience, not for all, but definitely for me, and it was most li... A student - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I learned that American culture is limited in comparison to cultures that have existed for thousands of years. The problems we have with racism and violence do not exist to the degree we have grown to accept. We have alot of lessons to learn from the world and knowing the language is just the first step. aaron.conaway.71 - Villanova University View Entire Review
This has completely changed my future plans - I fully intend to work in Japan at some point in the future. joseph.lovegren@gmail.com j - University of Texas Rio Grande Valley / UTRGV View Entire Review
I learn so much from doing this program, more than a class could ever teach me. This experience definitely changed my outlook on the world and life, and has made me a stronger person for it to. One thing I do know that I definitely want to go back, and if possible find a job in Japan and live there. Diana S - University of Hawaii - Manoa View Entire Review
Studying abroad prior to graduation is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will help you grow as both a student and an adult. It will afford you the chance to understand life through the perspective of another culture and it will give you ample opportunity to make foreign contacts, which can be invaluable in the business world... My study abroad program gave me the desired reprieve from school that I desired. I had a lot of fun, meet some cool people, and fell in love with Japan all over again. While I wish there was less English in my daily life, I still managed to improve my overall Japanese language skills. Further exposure to Japanese history and lit... Japan really has a lot of culture embedded into their society so it's interesting to compare it to the American way of life. It was overall a very good experience. My eyes were open and I received a more realistic view of what Japan was really like. I think my original concept is that Japan is like a dream world, but when it com...
