This was an independent study abroad sponsored by WWU. I seriously appreciate that WWU students have the opportunity to design and pursue unique international studies. This was an amazing experience and I loved connecting my love of plants and Spanish language as I rode my bicycle from El Salvador to Panama. WWU students can tailor an independent study abroad through Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies, the interdisciplinary liberal arts college at Western Washington University. Independent Study Projects (ISPs) allow students to explore new areas of study, to deepen study or to undertake applied work in areas that are not readily available in the curriculum at Fairhaven or Western. Independent Study is a valuable complement to traditional methods of instruction and learning, allowing students to pursue individual academic interests at their own pace.
