About

First Generation Abroad is an exclusive opportunity for first-generation college students at Washington State University to gain the global skills necessary for today’s competitive workforce! Students whose parents have not graduated from a 4-year college or university are invited to join First Generation Abroad in Seville, Spain in Summer 2017. Priority Consideration is given to participants in the following programs: College Success Foundation Scholars, First Scholars, Lead the Legacy, Smart Start, TRiO Student Support Services.

Students will be accompanied by their program advisors in Seville, Spain’s capital of Andalusia.  It is the fourth largest city in Spain and contains three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In addition to overnight excursions to Madrid, and Morocco, Africa, students will earn 6 college credits in an Arts and/or Culture course and a Communication and Global Competence course.

First Generation Abroad also includes a group community service project so that you can give back to your new Spanish community! Live with other First Gen Abroad Cougs in a shared apartment complex.
First Generation Abroad provides an affordable, life-changing experience for students who will benefit most from gaining access to extraordinary academic and professional development opportunities. First-generation students are largely absent from study abroad programs. This is a chance to take advantage of all study abroad has to offer! The professional and global competency skills you’ll gain can have a direct, positive impact on grades, graduation rates, and employability.
